    The only variation i see is that it has the base of bowline pulled through the loop. So you use it when you need to band something together and atill be able to easily untie the rope, compared to straight knot loop.

    The Tarbuck knot was made popular around 1952 by Kenneth Tarbuck, a climber and skier, for use by climbers, and was primarily used with stranded nylon ropes, before the advent of kernmantle ropes made this use both unnecessary and unsafe.[1][2] It was used when the rope is subject to heavy or sudden loads,[3] as it will slide to a limited extent thus reducing shock (but with kernmantle ropes it can strip the outer sheath).[2] The knot was already employed by 1946 as "the knot" by American tree trimmers.[4]

    Why do I not see anybody taking the tail end around the anchor one more time to lock it with half hitch? I’ve used that method for decades without fail. I don’t mean a half hitch onto the line itself like what I’ve seen all others demonstrate, I mean a half hitch on the anchoring post.

    Be careful of “so how do you know each other” in an already awkward context. It is sometimes used in a passive aggressive manner and is easy to read that way, more like another way to say “why are you even here?” Something slightly more specific like “how did you two meet?” Might work better 😅

    Excellent tutorial! In a camping scenario they can serve similar uses but in the working world they are much different. If I had to secure a heavy load on a vehicle or boat where having that load come lose could result in injury or death there is no question which knot I would use... The Truckers Hitch. I'm glad you pointed out this may not be the best knot to learn for youth. I find myself getting confused on my first attempt after not using it for awhile. The taut-line hitch is much easier to learn. Like you I have mostly replaced this knot with the Midshipman's knot although recently I have been playing around with the Farrimond Friction Hitch and the Prusik Hitch.

    Interesting knot. The Midshipman knot is faster and usually secure enough so I prefer it however different ropes like different knots. I can see how this could be superior with slippery rope such as Kevlar.

    As far as the Jam knot, I like (what one UA-camr called) the “bundle knot” (which another UA-camr called the “jam knot + quick release”). But I think the Woodland Zip is a lot easier to remember, and simpler to execute. Still, the quick release is a lot faster to untie than the Woodland Zip.

    • @jasonrafael5945
      @jasonrafael5945 18 днів тому

      I found these videos looking for a way to bind my open bag of rice. I first did the jam knot (+ quick release), but was left with so much excess rope. Then I came across your video with the Woodland zip tie, and I agree with what others have said, when you have a lot of rope, Woodland zip tie is better! I also just think the Woodland zip tie is simpler to remember and easier to execute. Even if it doesn’t have a quick release.

    • @jasonrafael5945
      @jasonrafael5945 18 днів тому

      Actually, I realized I could give the Woodland Ziptie a quick release by simply folding the ends into the loops. Possibly don’t even have to fold both ends, but for uniformity, I folded both.
